Obama’s statement in October 2008 that “we are five days away from
fundamentally transforming the United States of America” is well-known.
Less well-known is the fact that he said it at Mizzou–the focus of the campus upheaval now sweeping the nation.
Conservatives point to that phrase as an early clue of Obama’s
radical agenda for the nation–one he kept carefully hidden through most
of the election, one that the media took little interest in exploring,
one it took a question from “Joe the Plumber” to extract.
In the years since, Obama has distanced himself from the remark. In 2014, he told
Bill O’Reilly of Fox News that he merely meant the phrase to refer to
the non-controversial, shared yet neglected idea that “in America, if
you work hard, you can get ahead.”
But if that were true, Obama would have spoken of “restoring” America–not “transforming” it.
The truth was that Obama wanted his presidency to change America
forever by exploiting the economic crisis to pass a series of radical
left-wing policies years in the making.
The idea was that the public would become more accepting of radical
changes once it had experienced a few of the more popular reforms–or
that resistance from conservatives and from business interests would at
least have been broken, politically.
The chaos at the University of Missouri, which caused the university
president to resign last week and has led to a wave of copycat protests
across the nation, is essential to Obama’s strategy.
Indeed, that is why the White House endorsed
the Missouri protests–despite the fact that there was no evidence of
wrongdoing by university administrators, despite the fact that
demonstrators were breaking the law and violating freedom of the press,
and despite the fact that Obama himself had criticized political correctness earlier in the year.
Obama, ever the community organizer, relies on a permanently
agitated, divided and aggrieved population to create the sense of crisis
that is the only context in which people are willing to accept radical
change.
Obama is struggling to convey anger about the terrorist attacks in
Paris, admitting that he wasn’t going to be “bellicose” just to get a
good headline. But he did exactly that, as he criticized Republicans for
suggesting that the United States should stop accepting Syrian
refugees.
“The United States has to step up and do its part,” he said.
He denounced Republican candidates, including
Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX)

and Jeb Bush, who propose that the United States should primarily focus
on accepting Christian refugees, criticizing Obama’s unwillingness to
address the threat of terrorists coming overseas as refugees.
“That’s shameful. That’s not American. That’s not who we are. We don’t have religious tests to our compassion,” he said angrily.
He called for all nations to open their borders to accept more refugees in spite of the threat of terrorists posing as refugees.
“The people who are fleeing Syria are the most harmed by terrorism,
they are the most vulnerable as a consequence of civil war and strife.
They are parents. They are children. They are orphans,” he said. “It is
very important … that we do not close our hearts to these victims of
such violence,” Obama said, praising German Chancellor Angela Merkel for
their courage to accept more refugees.
He cautioned political leaders “not to fall into that trap” of
refusing to accept refugees, and to “not to feed that dark impulse
inside of us.”
Obama is denying that Muslims and Christians are at war, urging
Americans to reject the notion as well. He praised George W. Bush for
also rejecting anti-Muslim sentiment.
“If we want to be successful defeating ISIL, that’s a good place to
start,” he said. “By not promoting that kind of ideology, that kind of
attitude.”
It’s no secret that taxpayers are footing the bill for abortion
giant Planned Parenthood, despite claims that taxpayer dollars are not
being used to subsidize the group and its activities. Here are
three ways Planned Parenthood is benefiting at the expense of the
American taxpayer.
1. State funding
Currently, 17 states directly fund elective abortions under Medicaid, the federal health care program for low income Americans. The Guttmacher Institute reports that
Alaska, Arizona, California, Connecticut, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland,
Massachusetts, Minnesota, Montana, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York,
Oregon, Vermont, Washington, and West Virginia, use public funding to
pay for abortion procedures. While
the 1976 Hyde Amendment prevents federal taxpayer dollars from funding
abortions through Medicaid—with the exception of cases involving rape,
incest, and life of the mother—the program is jointly funded by both the
federal and state governments. The 17 states listed above, however,
have expanded the definition to include most elective abortions.
2. Obamacare
Despite promises (since broken) by members of Congress and the
President, Americans are subsidizing elective abortions and Planned
Parenthood under the Affordable Care Act.
The Government Accountability Office reported in
September of 2014 that 1,036 health insurance exchange plans under
Obamacare illegally cover elective abortions. The health care law
mandates insurers offering coverage for elective abortions to collect a
minimum surcharge of $12 a year from individuals, which is then placed
into a separate account to pay for abortion procedures. This rule,
however, is being ignored by insurers, according to the GAO.
The Affordable Care Act sends funding to health insurance plans that
cover abortion, but also creates new paths of funding for abortion giant
Planned Parenthood through its involvement in the assister and
navigator programs.
3. Federal funding
Forty-one percent of Planned Parenthood’s annual revenue—$528
million— came in the form of government grants and reimbursements,
according to the group’s 2013-14 annual report. These streams of funding for Planned Parenthood come through various programs including Medicaid and Title X.
While Medicaid and Title X are not directly paying for abortions at
the federal level, these programs ensure that Planned Parenthood
continues to receive over $500 million in taxpayer funding every year.
As the nation’s largest abortion chain, Planned Parenthood commits
over 320,000 abortions annually, and is the leading abortion advocacy
group with tremendous political clout. Because money is fungible, the
taxpayer dollars that Planned Parenthood brings in allows them to cover
overhead for centers that perform abortions. The taxpayer funds free up
Planned Parenthood to direct their donations to grow their abortion
services, facility reach, and abortion political advocacy. Additionally,
once Planned Parenthood earns money for any service, it can freely
invest those earnings into abortion activities.
Despite the ways taxpayer dollars flow into the coffers of Big Abortion, Planned Parenthood and its allies continue to fight for taxpayer funding without restriction through the repeal of the Hyde Amendment.
A report from the Government Accountability Office showed that
in just three years, Planned Parenthood received $1.5 billion in
combined federal and state funding. Six abortion groups received $481
million in federal dollars and $1.2 billion in state and federal funding
from 2010-12, with Planned Parenthood receiving the largest share.
In an interview with George Stephanopolous on “Good Morning America,” Obama asserted that ISIS was not gaining strength and that “we have contained them.”
“We’ve always understood that our goal has to be militarily constraining ISIL’s capabilities, cutting off their supply lines, cutting off their financing,” he said.
When Stephanopolous suggested ISIS was gaining strength, Obama pushed back.
I don’t think they’re gaining strength,” he said. “From the start, our goal has been first to contain and we have contained them. They have not gained ground in Iraq, and in Syria they’ll come in, they’ll leave. But you don’t see this systemic march by ISIL across the terrain.”
Kurdish forces retook Sinjar Friday morning with the help of U.S. airstrikes, liberating the Iraqi city from more than 15 months of Islamic State rule and cutting off one of the group’s major supply lines. And a U.S. airstrike Thursday targeted and may have killed the ISIS executioner known as “Jihadi John.”
Obama also touted that the U.S. and its allies had “made some progress” in reducing the flow of foreign fighters to ISIS.
We’ve made some progress in trying to reduce the flow of foreign fighters, and part of our goal has to be to recruit more effective Sunni partners in Iraq to really go on offense rather than simply engage in defense.”
If the Paris attacks are genuinely the work of ISIS-aligned militants, it may be the second major ISIS-related attack in the past few weeks to come outside of the Syria and Iraq region. The group has also taken credit for the destruction of Russia’s Metrojet Flight 9268, which crashed in the Sinai two weeks ago, killing 224.
