Basing his comments on "my own Christian faith," President Obama told the Catholic-Evangelical Leadership Summit that churches should spend less time focusing on abortion and same-sex “marriage.”
During a panel discussion on poverty at Georgetown University last Tuesday, Obama criticized churches for how they engage politically, focusing on "divisive issues" such as protecting life and preserving marriage.
Barack Obama said in his Weekly Address, delivered on the 4th of July, that “all of us are…endowed by our Creator with…the right[] to life.”
In declaring his recognition of a God-given right to life, Obama did not exempt any class of human beings from this right. He did not exempt the unborn, those conceived through rape or incest, the old, or the infirm.
Obama, however, backs legalized abortion on demand. As a state senator in Illinois, he repeatedly opposed a bill that would have declared that a born baby who survived an abortion is a “person”—just like a born baby who was not targeted by an abortion.
President Obama has also promulgated a “preventive services” regulation under the Affordable Care Act—AKA Obamacare—that requires virtually all health insurance plans in the United States to cover without co-pay abortion-inducing drugs and devices.
“We remember as well that this is the day when, 239 years ago, our founding patriots declared our independence, proclaiming that all of us are created equal, endowed by our Creator with certain unalienable rights including the rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness,” said Obama in his Weekly Address.
“A couple of centuries later, we have made ourselves into a big, bold, dynamic, and diverse country,” said Obama. “We are of all races, we come from all places, we practice all faiths, and believe in all sorts of different ideas. But our allegiance to this declaration--this idea--is the creed that binds us together. It’s what, out of many, makes us one.
