Dem Senators and Moderates Block Border Security Amendment to Immigration Bill: Six GOP senators voted for Grassley’s amendment. They included Grassley, Jeff Sessions, Mike Lee, John Cornyn, Ted Cruz, and Orrin Hatch.

In a move that is telling of the Gang of Eight’s priorities, the Senators who have worked to craft a pro-amnesty immigration bill were able to block the latest GOP amendment to freeze the legalization of the estimated 11 million illegal immigrants in America until the border is secured.
The amendment, proposed by Republican Senator Chuck Grassley, sought to freeze the granting of amnesty until a two-layer fence could be constructed on the border, helping to stop the flow of illegal immigrants. Grassley calls the current bill, “Legalization first and enforcement later.” However, many critics have questioned if there would ever be any meaningful attempts to secure the border once amnesty was given.
The Democratic bloc was joined by Republican Senators Jeff Flake and Lindsey Graham. Democratic Sen. Chuck Schumer claimed that the amendment would “basically delay, probably forever, legalization and bringing people out of the shadows.”

Democrats who have recently touted gun control as a policy imperative because the public, supposedly, supports it have largely pushed ahead for a pro-amnesty immigration policy devoid of border security despite the fact that in poll after poll the majority of Americans have demanded a secure border.
