Here is a note left on a district performance task showing student opinion on CCSS.
The teacher adds:
With the Smarter Balanced Assessment, students have to do a performance task piece. It’s a multilayered word problem. Part of what they want is for students to justify/explain their answer and one way they can do that is by showing it another way. This is a great kid who left feeling stupid and frustrated because of the wording of CCSS questions.
Why is Common Core creating students who are confused when these standards were supposed to be clearer? The proponents will say it’s an implementation issue. Opponents say that if education delivery is not working for students, then it is incumbent upon the professionals to change the delivery of the curriculum which is tailored to a common set of standards and assessments. The proponents will say that’s ridiculous. But remember what Bill Gates who has invested over $3 Billion for the standards said:
