he United States, home of the free, has been turned into a police state by the leaders we elected to protect our freedom, and now the president of Russia, of late called the Soviet Union, is lecturing the Obama Administration about how it needs to follow the law when conducting surveillance.
Intelligence Committee Chairwoman Sen. Dianne Feinstein, after initially defending the NSA, has now called for the agency to "review" how it protects Americans' rights. May as well ask the fox to review how it treats the chickens.
But Feinstein and others on both sides of the aisle are really hot to get their hands on NSA leaker Edward Snowden, of whom Feinstein said, "What he did was an act of treason." The feds are preparing criminal charges.
Fox News analyst Ralph Peters said the death penalty was in order for Snowden, who has jeopardized national security.
"I can assure you that this isn't about spying on the American people," Sen. Al Franken said, claiming the NSA program has prevented terrorist attacks.
You know what prevents terrorist attacks without targeting the entire nation of innocent people? Tracking known terrorist cells and arresting or, if necessary, killing their members.
You know a great way to find those terrorists? Going to the communities, mosques and organizations that support them and infiltrating them with undercover agents, rather than wasting your time on miscellaneous Americans or Tea Party members.
I'll bet that program would catch a lot more terrorists than the current one of having federal agents play Donkey Kong while the Brainiac 7 supercomputer sifts all the phone calls and emails in America.
The funniest twist yet in this farce, however, has to be Russian President Vladimir Putin, formerly of the KGB, lecturing Americans on how to conduct surveillance legally.
Putin disputed Obama's recent statement that "you can't have 100 percent security and 100 percent privacy," saying it is acceptable to conduct electronic framework and possible to protect privacy by following the law.
"Such methods are in demand," Putin said. "But you can’t just listen to the phone call in Russia; you need a special order from court. This is how this should be done in civilized society while tackling terrorism with the use of any technical means. If it is in the framework of the law, then it’s OK. If not it is unacceptable."
Putin suggested that Russia might give Snowden political asylum if it is asked.
