Obama will mark 50 years to the day that Martin Luther King Jr. gave his famous “I have a dream speech” by standing on the same spot on the Lincoln Memorial.
Obama will deliver remarks at the “Let Freedom Ring” ceremony commemorating the 50th anniversary of the March on Washington on August 28, the White House announced Wednesday.

King delivered his original remarks in front of 250,000 civil rights supporters on August 28, 1963.
Obama largely avoided the issue of race during his first term, but gave some of his most expansive comments on the topic last month in the wake of George Zimmerman’s acquittal in the shooting death of Trayvon Martin.
Note: This article initially misstated the year King gave his speech. It was of course 1963, not 2013.
