Illinois Lawmakers Reject Proposal For ‘Barack Obama Day’

Illinois will never forget former President Barack Obama, whose presidential library will be housed in Chicago. But exactly how to remember him has become a thorny issue.

On Tuesday, Illinois lawmakers rejected a proposal to make Aug. 4, Obama’s birthday, a legal holiday in the state.

The Illinois House ended up with 54 votes in favor of the proposal, six votes short of the number needed to send the measure to the state’s Senate.
